Loch Ness
Whether or not you believe in the enigmatic Nessie, Loch Ness is sure to disappoint. Without a doubt, the vistas are breathtaking, but in a country where everything is one huge spectacular view, that’s not saying much. Nobody tells you that the lake is a long way from any big city, so your time in Scotland could be better spent elsewhere. And, let’s face it, if there was a genuine likelihood of seeing the Loch Ness monster, there would be photographic evidence by now. We’re not denying that he (or she) exists, but it may have gone somewhere else. There’s plenty of lovely landscape to see, so spend less time chasing a dream and more time exploring.
Mall of America
This Bloomington, Minnesota mall is massive, with over 500 stores and 50 restaurants! Why plan a visit here when the same stores are available online? There are several little indoor amusement parks at the big mall, but there are also Disneyland, Universal Studios, Knott’s, Six Flags, and a slew of other locations where you can take the kids that are far better. If you’re planning a family vacation in Bloomington, you should go to Nickelodeon Universe or the Lego Imagination Center at the very least. It’s a lot more fun than the Mall of America, and it provides unique experiences that you won’t find at any other over-hyped shopping mall. No disrespect to malls, but there’s a reason they’re closing down.
Catalina Island
The word “island” conjures up images of exotic places, but this one southwest of Los Angeles is surrounded by chilly water and lacks a beach. You can take a golf cart trip, play a round of golf, or head to a casino. That’s all there is to it. Consider a tropical holiday if you want a truly relaxed break in a warmer climate. Furthermore, this establishment is not cheap! It will cost at least $250 for one night only to get to the island and book a lodging. That’s a lot of money for very little work. If you plan ahead and travel during the off-season, you may easily plan a more economical vacation to places like Negril.
