The Leaning Tower of Pisa
This is another one of those places where the experience might be slightly intriguing if it weren’t for the hordes of visitors waiting to repeat the cliched hold-the-tower-up-with-your-hands photo. It’s been done a million times before, to the point where it’s more cringe-worthy than humorous. Perhaps the most inconvenient aspect of the Leaning Tower of Pisa is its location. You can easily take a high-speed rail to get there because it’s such a popular destination, but it’ll take roughly an hour off of your day simply to get there from Florence (and an hour back). There is so much to do in Florence that you would be better off spending your time there.
Cancun
If you’re a carefree spring breaker who has no notion of over-drinking and significant liver damage, Cancun is a dream come true. This Mexican “oasis” is congested, pricey, and overrun by the aforementioned spring breakers for the rest of us. There are plenty more interesting places to visit in Mexico than Cancun. Cabo San Lucas is a great place to visit if you’re looking for a relaxed tropical holiday in Mexico. It’s a popular location for air or cruise passengers. If you’re interested in history, you might want to visit Chichén Itzá and see some ancient Mayan ruins. Mexico is a country with a diverse culture and much more to offer than Spring Break partying.
Stonehenge
Stonehenge isn’t entirely a flop; there’s something charmingly eerie and almost hallowed about this ancient jumble of stones. Most visitors to the site, however, are expecting to see colossal stone pillars. The reality may be significantly more disappointing and less wonderful than the media portrays it to be. The highest of the stones is only 30 feet tall, and you can’t go close to them. Stonehenge is surrounded by a rope to keep visitors at a safe distance. This makes it appear even smaller than it actually is! There are lots of other places to see in England, so don’t make this one your top priority.
