Christ the Redeemer

Rio de Janeiro’s most famous monument is without a doubt Christ the Redeemer. Millions of people visit the massive Jesus monument each year, but don’t expect a supernatural experience when you arrive. When you’re on top of a mountain, you have two options for getting there: walking or riding the Trem do Corcovado. If you’re going on foot, go during a cooler month because the average temperature is in the high 80s. Alternatively, you might pay $20 for a ride up the mountain. That is not a tiny sum of money. Then there’s a line when you eventually get to the top (either direction you’re going). Because the queue is long, it’s more about waiting than viewing. If you absolutely want to go, go during the week when there are far fewer people.

Blue Lagoon

Many tourists visit Iceland solely to see the Blue Lagoon, but this isn’t the best reason to visit. If you’re unfamiliar with it, it’s a geothermal spa near Grindavk. The water is heated spontaneously by geothermal energy and can reach temperatures of up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The lagoon, on the other hand, is man-made. Aside from the fact that it isn’t a true natural marvel, the location can become overcrowded, and the water can be toxic at times due to dangerously high pH levels. Add to it the fact that entry in the summer costs €45, plus another €45 for a ticket. Yes, you will be charged twice. It’s all too obvious to see how much you’re paying too much for the experience.

The Eiffel Tower

According to clever tourists, the Eiffel Tower looks gorgeous from afar, but it is not worth the effort to climb to the observation deck and gaze out over Paris. The views aren’t that impressive. The Effiel Tower may be seen from a variety of locations throughout the city, so getting up close and personal isn’t required. You’re in for a disappointment if you expect to see a colossal structure – the tower is shorter than many buildings throughout the world. You’ll want to travel around as much as possible if you want to see everything there is to see in Paris. There’s a lot to see in The City of Lights, so give yourself plenty of time.
