30 Awful Christmas Decor Trends

Colored Christmas Trees

People shifted to obnoxiously coloured Christmas trees after becoming tired of normal and even flocked Christmas trees. For several years, blue, green, red, yellow, and even rainbow Christmas trees have been all the rage…but would you jump off a cliff if everyone else was? These trees are a tad cheesy. The problem is that they resemble something from a Tim Burton film. A Christmas tree in bright pink just doesn’t say “Merry Christmas.” Candy land, bubble gum, and pepto-abysmil are all mentioned. If you want to have a good Christmas, stick to a standard tree; otherwise, you’ll have to live with irritating arborvitae in your home.

Leaving Your Lights Up Too Long

Every community has that one neighbour who leaves their Christmas lights on for far too long, if not all year! Don’t be one of them people. When your neighbours drive by your house and see last year’s light display, they all snicker. It’s charming to have Christmas in July, but not when it’s inadvertent and lazy. Leaving your Christmas lights up all year sends a clear message to your neighbours that you don’t give a damn. And projecting that to those around you isn’t a good idea. You’re penalised for knee-high grass and untrimmed hedges the next thing you know. But seriously, take down those Christmas lights.

Lanterns on Lanterns

The lantern trend is another Pinterest project that has gone crazy. People have been collecting lanterns for years and scattering them around their homes throughout the holidays. They fill them, stack them, but they don’t light them very often. The number of lanterns strewn about some people’s homes is ridiculous. This fad has passed us by like throw pillows. You’re told to buy some, and you keep buying them because it’s all you’ve ever known. The popularity of these lanterns grew to the point where some people decided to make them a permanent part of their decor. Having a lantern (read: one lantern) might be a nice accent piece, but having too many can be obnoxious.
